What is PPC?

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) is the process of purchasing ad space from search engines (Google, viagra Bing, Yahoo) to display advertisements to users directly searching for your products or services. The advertiser pays a fee whenever a searcher clicks on the ad. The fee is determined by how much the advertiser is willing to bid, how much others are bidding and how relevant your ad is to the query searched.

As the leader in the search industry, Google is in a unique position to provide advertisers with incredible value as the most popular search engine. Your impressions (how often your ad is displayed) are determined by which keyword match type is selected. There are three keyword match types:

  • Broad – Matches your keywords with searches that are broadly relevant. If our keyword is PPC Services it could be matched with the query “What is PPC” because it’s broadly related to PPC Services

  • Phrase – Matches your keywords with searches that contain a phrase. Using the same example, “Who provides the best PPC Services” could match to our keyword.

  • Exact – Matches your keywords only to the exact same query. Our ad would only display if someone searched exactly “PPC Services”

The success of your keywords is dependent upon many factors. Your ads need to be relevant to your keywords and compelling enough for searches to click on them. Using promotional or discount offers can be particularly effective in convincing searches to click your ad over a competitors. Your advertisements’ success is determined by:

  • Keyword Organization – Setting up your Campaign, Adgroup, and Keyword structure to be compatible with your overall strategy.

  • Landing Page – Once someone clicks on your ad they are taken to your landing page. Your landing page must be extremely relevant to their search query and your ad text. If someone searched for “purchase AA batteries” you should send them to a page where they can buy AA batteries.

  • Quality Score – Google determines your quality score by effectively rating the overall picture of your account (organization, ad relevance, landing page, and keywords). Advertisers with better Quality Score’s will receive more impressions, more ad clicks, and will pay less in fees overall.
